KATLA ERUPTS

UK Unprepared.

Ash to arrive in 72 hours.

Breaking news, we have just heard that another major Icelandic volcano has just erupted called Katla which we understand to be 10 times more powerful than Eyjafjallajokull which erupted last year.

Katla Eruption

Katla's plume can be seen for miles

Katla has just erupted without warning and a huge ash cloud has risen 20 kilometre's into the atmosphere. Due to prevailing winds it is estimated that in 72 hours huge amounts of ash , gases and smoke will arrive over the UK and Europe . The UK Government is asking citizens not to panic, stay indoors and put wet towels over draughty gaps in windows and doors.

All flights across the Atlantic have been halted and all shipping is being cleared from the danger zone, there are already reports of panic buying in supermarkets up and down the country, the Government has asked citizens to remain calm.

IMPORTANT NOTE:  Don't panic yet, this is a draft article of what the headlines could be saying if the real thing actually did happen. My theory is that as one of the 20 or so massive Icelandic volcanoes erupts on average once every three years that unfortunately we may well be reading these or similar headlines very soon.

The paragraph below though is real and is taken from interviews the Icelandic President Mr Olafur Grimsson actually gave to the media in 2010............

Following the 2010 Eyjafjallajokull eruption on 20th April 2010 Icelandic President Olafur Grimsson said,

“the time for Katla to erupt is coming close....we [ Iceland] have prepared.....it is high time for European Governments and airline authorities all over Europe and the world to   start planning for the eventual Katla eruption." Please note Mr Cameron, you were warned and you can’t blame Gordon Brown for this one.
